Our Stories Ourselves: Legacy stories from the elder years: sharing memories, settling relationships, passing on wisdoms, making peace, is a story based workshop series that took place the fall and winter of 2016/17. LEGACY STORIES: Sharing Event
March 11 - 2pm to 4pm Old Fire Hall - 1105 Front Street The public was invited to a casual afternoon of coffee, tea, stories & laughter to hear participants share experiences and stories that came from the Legacy Stories workshops we had been running since Fall 2016. Seniors shared written, oral, and digital stories as well as thoughts that came out of the workshop series. |
LEGACY WRITING: Sharing Gratitude, Values, and Life Stories by Faye Ferguson
January 31 - 6:30pm L'Association Franco-yukonnaise (AFY) - 302 Strickland Street Admission is free, and includes refreshments Faye Ferguson, a personal historian and instructor at the University of Victoria, discussed how we can keep our stories alive from one generation to the next, the difference between Legacy Letters and Memoir Writing, the benefits of reflecting on life's stories, and how you can get started sharing your own stories. WIT Artistic Director, Arlin McFarlane facilitated story circle workshops with seniors based on the needs and wishes of different groups from October to February. WIT included seniors from all walks of life: those in care facilities, those who may be experiencing isolation, those who have been reflecting on the journey of life, and those who were just looking to do something fun and engaging. Even new seniors struggling with the concept of being a senior!
